Connection Help
Connection Help
I am currently at my friends house trying to set up his wireless network. He got a laptop (easy recommended) and a belkin n wirless router. I ran speedtest to get an idea of what his speeds were (he has the same internet company i have). The first time I ran it I got a 385 ping and .05 mb/s download. WTH????? Any ideas?

First, you'd probably want to see if the problem is with the connection from the ISP and not the router.
Plug the computer straight into the router and see what result you get from the speed test. If it is the same, have him call his ISP.
If it is better then return that router and make him buy a Linksys router.

So I'm at my friends house now. Ran the thing that nookie posted. Dropped ping down to 10, but the dl and ul speeds haven't changed. They stayed at around .12mb/s dl and .06mb/s up. I checked the companies website to see what the lowest speeds were that they offered in case maybe he got some weird insanely cheap/slow one. The slowest that they offered though is 1.5mb/s dl and 256kb/s up.
Then I plugged the laptop directly into the router. No change in speeds at all.
So before I have him call the isp could the router be that crappy that it bottlenecks it that bad? Should he try a linksys before bitching out the isp?
