Debating on getting a new desktop. The one up looking at has these specs:

Intel i7 - 2600k 3.4Ghz
8Gb DDR3/1600mhz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580 1.5GB
850 Watts - Corsair CMPSU-850TXV2 80 Plus Power Supply
2TB (2TBx1) SATA-III 6.0Gb/s 64MB Cache 7200RPM HDD

Thoughts? Its nothing I really need right now but I have been wanting a desktop for a while now.

Got a price tag on that? I personally would go ahead and separately buy and build your own rather than buy it prebuilt, take out a few of the over the top things, i mean no one really needs 2 tb's, and you could use the extra to overkill your ram at like 12gb's or up that 580 to a 590, just my opinion i have a bad irk to always wait for the new releases and grab the current "best". But that's definitely a very pretty set up there.

Talorn needs as much hard drive space as possible to save all of the pictures he takes of his victims.

Price was around 1300-1400.

With the hard drive though, by downgrading I might save 20-30 bucks lol. No way it would make up enough of a difference to upgrade anything else. To go from the 580 to a 590 is going to be what 150-200? And from what I've read the 590 doesn't outperform the 580 by that much to make it worth. Plus the company offers overclocking (and warranties everything) so the oc'd 580 would def do as well if not better than the 590.

And ted, I hadn't picked a motherboard yet.

So this is a kit?
and if it is I would say you could probably do a little better piece by piece on your own.
A hefty price.

Oh yea i know i didn't mean you could upgrade other things purely from downgrading the hard drive i was just using that as one example but yea you're right you would still be pumping extra cash for sure, its mainly based on how overkill you want your pc to be. Overclocked (depending if you would be using water cooling (again even more cash)) the 590 would out play the 580 no competition, but now we are digressing. If youve got the money to spare and want a badass compy id definitely invest in that setup, could always just upgrade in the future as well, not that you will need to for quite a while. And as Ted said you could PROBABLY run away with spare cash if you were too build your own, but im lazy, i buy prebuilt and upgrade from there >.>, just depends on what youre willing to do.

Not sure how much I would actually save doing it myself. Adding up all the parts with newegg I was up to 1125 and thats before the tower, cd/dvd drives, cooling options, operating system and a few other things. Then you add in the time required for me to put it together, assuming I get it right the first time lol.

And that system I was looking at does come with liquid cooling :D And like I said the company warranties everything they overclock which is another added bonus.

No need for liquid unless you are computing in the Sahara.
Just invest in a good air cooler.

But if the price is that close then I just say go with the build.
It's a bit of a hassle to build on your own unless you have done a few.
